We all know someone whose life has been affected by Breast Cancer. In 2016, 30% of newly diagnosed cancers among American woman were breast-related.1
In keeping with our mission to care for the world we live in and for those who we live with, Aveda’s network and guests have raised more than $4 million for cruelty-free research through the Breast Cancer Research Foundation® (BCRF) through 2016.2
The Power of AI South
Salons and schools go above and beyond for the cause, as they host events in their communities to raise money and awareness. Last year the Aveda Institutes South (AI South) alone— a collection of 20 schools located in the southern region of North America— rose $114 thousand for BCRF.
“Every year we commit wholeheartedly to this cause because it hits so close to home,” says Beth Halter, Regional Director of Operations for AI South. “Breast Cancer has touched so many and every one of our educators and students have a story. It’s in sharing these stories that really connect us and then drives to fundraise.”
Last year Beth worked close with the Houston school that includes an average of 280 students. For the season, the schools held two fashion shows, a concert, a silent auction, a walk for the cause, bake sales and numerous other events to spread the word and motivate people to donate. And all the while they kept on sharing the stories.
“The more you share, the more you see people want to get involved,” Beth says. “Education is key and it leads us to have an impact, doing what we can for research and hopefully one day to find a cure.”
