1. What are some key tips for maintaining and enhancing curly hair?
As curly hair, depending on your curl type, is constantly thirsty ensure that the curls are hydrated and in the best condition they can be. Apply a hydration and or protein treatment once a week and ensure you are using the correct shampoo and conditioner for your hair type.
2. Are there any products from the Be Curly Advanced range that you would recommend?
Can I say all of them! We are loving the new primer; it reduces frizz by 87% and it is wonderful for detailing curls. The newly formulated gel is fantastic as it creates a gel cast, essential for longer lasting curls but its not too crunchy. To get the perfect combination of too much cast or none at all is difficult but with the be curly its perfection. The same can be said for the curl enhancing cream. I have used so many products that are too thick and "gluggy" just weighing the hair down. This product hydrates the hair, defining the curls without the heaviness allowing the curls to spring to life.
3. How can individuals with curly hair combat frizz and maintain definition?
This is a question every curly girl asks. Ensure that your hair is hydrated. Apply your cream and gel separately into sopping wet hair and then plop your hair. So many guests say they towel dry their hair then apply products. This should never be done as you have "ruffled" the cuticle already causing frizz. Brush your hair when wet, squeezing the hair upwards and diffuse on low heat and medium speed to minimise frizz. The more you touch your hair the more it will frizz.
4. Can you suggest any styling techniques or tools that work best for curly hair?
Do no overcomplicate things - finger coil, scrunch or hover dry. Some guests like to airdry as they prefer a more natural look but diffusing gives you much more body much quicker and defines the curl. Use a dry powder on the roots for extra body, dry upside down and when you shake your hair out , never pull out onto the ends - his ensures the integrity of the curl on the ends.
5. What are some common mistakes people make when caring for curly hair, and how can they be avoided?
Keep it simple. Over cowashing your hair without clarifying it is a mistake I see every day. When it's shampoo day do it twice if it is more than every 3 days, this ensures clean hair.
A dirty scalp can lead to dull, lifeless hair, hair breakage, dandruff and even fungus build up. I always liken hair to skin, You would never only moisturise your face without cleansing it. If your hair is frizzy just rewet it with a spray bottle do not apply copious amounts of oil.
Lastly, listen to your hair. If a process you are advised to do is not working it’s simple - DONT, DO IT
