Protecting people and the planet is at the heart of the Aveda Mission. We live our mission in many ways, including fostering and nurturing decades-long partnerships with nongovernmental organizations (NGOs), Indigenous peoples and communities around the world.

Aveda’s dedication to our mission partners and community-focused approach was highlighted during a video shared at the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) Nature for Life Summit on October 5, 2021. Activists, influencers, leaders and businesses came together at this forum to determine practical solutions and ambitious actions needed to help transform the world’s relationship with nature to ensure a positive future for people and the planet.

David Hircock, Executive Director, Corporate Affairs and Global Communications at The Estée Lauder Companies said, “It’s so special to be recognized along with our incredible mission partners by our friends at the United Nations. We have long believed we need to learn from and listen to Indigenous Peoples and local communities who are often defending our last natural lands. Together we will continue working hand in hand to protect this world for all people.”

Whether protecting 450,000 acres of land in the Brazilian Amazon through our 29-year partnership with the Yawanawa, supporting the development of Child-Friendly Villages to help end child labor in India through our 16-year partnership with Kailash Satyarthi Children’s Foundation, or creating and implementing a revenue diversification program with our 17-year partner Asia Network for Sustainable Agriculture and Bioresources in Nepal, the key to our long-term and successful relationships is all in our approach.

Clean water is the foundation of our work together, and helping support human rights, helping preserve and enhance biodiversity, helping mitigate climate change and, ultimately, benefitting the community are the goals shared through these partnerships.

Aveda listens and learns from our partners to determine the solutions needed for the challenges we are collectively facing, as we treat each other with mutual trust and respect.
